PostSubject: Safer Sex? NIU ranks high   Sun Jan 10, 2016 9:03 am

To say that a good number of teenagers and college students are not having sex, is burying your head in the sand. Regardless of what your religious beliefs are, or the influence your parents had on you, it comes down to individual choice. Responsibility plays a lot into whether you have sex or not, as well as your maturity level.
The Trojan company, which makes condoms, has just released a survey that shows that our own Northern Illinois University has moved up and is now ranked higher than other colleges for having safer sex.
I think that this shows that just because we live in a rural area, we still take precautions and seem to be smarter than a lot of other people when it comes to having safer sex.
See results below photo, and thank you Trojan for promoting safer sex.

NIU up 7 spots in Trojan Sexual Health Report Card

NIU was recognized for having safer sex as it jumped seven spots from last year’s Annual Trojan Sexual Health Report Card to 67 out of 140.
The Trojan Sexual Health Report Card is an annual ranking that evaluates the availability of sexual resources and information from 140 different universities across the nation. Each campus is evaluated by the independent firm Sperling’s BestPlaces.
This is the 10th annual report, seeing a dramatic increase in standards since it’s inception in 2006, according to data from a Trojan news release.
The average grade of universities in the report card’s first year was 1.90 on a 4.0 scale. This years average is 3.0.

I think the education in our school health class helps a lot with people using protection, and the awareness of AIDS and other socially transmitted social diseases.

I guess it is encouraging that so many more people are getting smarter about safe sex, both at the high school and college level. I do think education plays a big part in that awareness though.

I find that study very encouraging, it shows younger people are not being as careless about sex as they were several years ago.

I have never had sex, but I would think it should be pretty much a no brainier for people that do have sex to use some sort of birth control, not so much to prevent pregnancy but also if they have multiple partners which I guess at the college age is possible.
